Could you be searching for a crewed yacht charter in Turkey? Or for a crewed yacht charter in Greece? Could you be considering a crewed motor-sailing yacht charter in Turkey? Because you wish to sail the Greek Dodecanese and you realize these motor-sailers charter in Turkey but also sail to Greece? And because you are dreaming of magical Greek islands under a warm Aegean sun? Or do you intend sailing only in Turkey? Because you are enamored of secluded pine-encircled clear-water coves along Turkey's Turquoise Coast? Perhaps you would like to do both, sail Turkey and sail Greece. On the same holiday! Why not sail both aboard a crewed charter yacht with accommodations for six guest couples? Why not sail both aboard Sea Fox, a handsome fore-and-aft-rigged schooner with corsair lines. You might like to begin by cruising ancient Lycia, home of uncounted pirates as well as so many of the Iliad's Trojan heroes. Or begin by sailing Kara Hassan's 1496 corsair tracks along the west coast of Turkey and among neighboring Aegean islands. Kara Hassan (Kara Hasan) was a sea fox for all seasons who plied these waters with a squadron of fast galliots (small galleys) preying on Latin shipping and Latin communities, Genovese Chios among those suffering his presence. He did it so well that one year later he had become a flotilla commander in Sultan Bayezid's Ottoman Navy. That year, 1497, he sent two Venetian caravels to the bottom near Aegina, one of the caravels from Zadar, the other from Korcula, both from modern Croatia then Venetian. Taking his galliots down into the southern Aegean in 1498 to further harass Venetian shipping, he enthusiastically took two wine-laden cargo vessels off Candia (Crete). He again returned to the Aegean a year later to capture a large but unescorted Venetian war galley unable to withstand four smaller vessels. Later at Chios he took two Venetian brigantines (small galliots) in tow, as well, before returning in triumph to Constantinople trailing the Lion of St. Mark in the sea astern. A second sea fox by the name of Kara Hassan, also a corsair in the employ of the Ottoman Empire, fifteen years later sailed through these same crossroads of history en route to what is now Algeria where he proclaimed himself Emir of Cherchelle. With Ottoman Sultan Selim's blessing. Wouldn't you find it interesting to sail corsair tracks while you holiday at the crossroads of history! Or would you prefer to simply cruise with family and friends from swim hole to swim hole? With visits to the local Turkish bath? The local Turkish bath you bring with you! Even while cruising Greece you might visit your local Turkish bath, called hamam in Turkey and often called hamam in Greece. Visit the hamam while you proceed leisurely from one fascinating locale to another, cruising through the Cyclades in Greece's central Aegean all the way to Aegina. Or cruising north through the Greek Dodecanese and Eastern Sporades all the way to Chios. Starting in Turkey. Starting in Bodrum. Or Gocek. Are you searching for Gocek in Turkey? Or are you wondering about the two Kara Hassans? The two Black Hassans, for kara means black. The earlier Kara Hassan met his end in 1499 unsuccessfully defending Keffalonia against a Venetian and Spanish assault, the later Kara Hassan met his in 1516 at the hands not of Latins but of Aruj Reis, eldest of the brothers Barbarossa. Shortly thereafter Aruj, too, had the blessing of Sultan Selim. With or without a blessing we can put you aboard a crewed charter yacht for the holiday of a lifetime. We can put you aboard a charter yacht with an experienced crew able to show you the tracks of the two Black Hassans and of Aruj Reis, able to show you the tracks of Kara Tornus, the earlier Kara Hassan's brother, and to show you the tracks of Kheir-ed-Din, youngest of the four Barbarossa brothers. Sea Fox, a fine crewed charter yacht available in Turkey and Greece to sail the crossroads of history for sun and fun. Contact Charter Yachts Turkey today at charteryachts@gocekturkey.com |
