Dear Homo Sapiens, There is no need to continue reading this page. What
follows is intended for search engine robots and spiders and not necessarily for human beings. Further
information concerning gulets on charter cruise in Turkey and Greece may be obtained by clicking on the
maroon links immediately above. Thank You. What search words have you just used? Charter cruise
Turkey? Or gulet charter Greece? If either, you must be searching for a charter cruise in Turkey or Greece.
Perhaps for a cruise on a gulet such as Kadir Kaptan. If neither, you have found Kadir Kaptan anyway. Take
a look; see if you like her appearance. Which country is it? Greece or Turkey? Would you consider a charter
cruise along the Turquoise Coast of Turkey? Would you contemplate a swim in crystal-clear seawater at the
foot of steep slopes covered in pine? Or are you dreaming of a Blue Cruise between remote Greek islands in
hot pursuit of the perfect grilled octopus? Could you even be hoping to charter a gulet to do both Greece
and Turkey at once? How about doing one or both aboard a crewed charter gulet with spacious teak decks and
comfortable accommodations for six couples. A schooner-rigged pilot-house gulet on which to cruise the Aegean
and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey or on which to sail among
neighboring Dodecanese and Cyclades islands of Greece. Or both. While you holiday. While you have a
family-and-friends holiday combining sun, fun, and history. Perhaps cruising the tracks of galleys flying the
colors of the Hospitaller Knights of Rhodes (nee the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem). Or cruising
the tracks of Knight prey such as Zoppo (Cripple). While you have a group holiday aboard a schooner-rigged
gulet proceeding leisurely from one historically fascinating locale to another. While you charter a pilot-house
schooner to cruise further into the Aegean. Into the Greek Cyclades. As did Zoppo, also known as Acsac Reis.
Have you previously heard of Zoppo? Zoppo was born to Greek parents living on the Venetian island of Candia
(Crete) at the turn of the sixteenth century, and like many of his Orthodox contemporaries was raised to
despise his Latin overlords. Fishing from Candia Town (Iraklion) as a youngster, he quickly learned the ways
of the sea. And he quickly learned to fish for larger catch along Latin sea lanes leading from Candia to
Venice. It was while fleeing a Hospitaller galley in 1523 that he is believed to have lost a leg above the knee,
an unfortunate development said to have sidelined him only briefly but to have greatly increased his ferocity.
Commanding a brigantine (small galliot) at the time and then a galliot (small galley) and then several galliots
he for the next few years continued to raid Aegean shipping while dodging war galleys of the republic as well
as those of the Hospitallers who had meanwhile moved from Rhodes to Malta. In about 1526, however, Zoppo came
to believe the pickings would be richer in the western Mediterranean where Barbarossa and Dragut were accruing
fame and fortune. He accordingly moved to the coast of Tunisia where he allied himself with Dragut, fifteen
years his senior and also the offspring of Greek-speaking parents. From his base in the Gulf of Gabes, Zoppo
annually joined Dragut in raiding Italy, though on occasion he returned to the Aegean to tweak the Venetian
Lion of St. Mark. It was after one of these occasions in 1538 that he and Dragut came up from Candia to join
Barbarossa for the Battle of Prevesa at which the Genovese Admiral Andrea Doria was outwitted and defeated.
Zoppo is most renown not for sailing in company with Dragut, however, and not for participating in the Battle
of Prevesa. He is not even most renown for his 1541 capture of a Hospitaller war galley commanded by Jean
Parisot de la Valette who 16 years later was to become Grand Master of the Knights of Malta. Zoppo Reis was
most renown for the bone-chilling tap of his peg leg patrolling the deck of his warship. Valette knew that
tap; he spent a year at Zoppo's oars. One year before Valette's capture, it might be noted, Dragut had been
taken prisoner by the Doria family and was also spending time at the oars. This anecdote could go on from
here but must pause. Come join us at the crossroads of history for ensuing chapters. Come join us in Gocek,
Turkey. Here or elsewhere we can put you aboard a charter gulet for the holiday cruise of a lifetime. We can
put you aboard a charter gulet with an experienced crew able to show you azure sailing waters off the western
coast of Turkey and between neighboring Aegean islands of Greece, able to show you Zoppo's paths through
the Aegean to and from Candia, able to show you the Knight's route from Rhodes Town to Candia to an
engagement with Zoppo. Kadir Kaptan, a charter gulet cruising Turkey and Greece. Contact Charter
